How I work ...
Lessons take place on a weekly basis during term time according to your local education authority. Lessons are also available during holiday periods for pupils preparing for exams. The regular weekly lessons allow time for concepts to be introduced, reinforced, revised and applied, to assist with longer term memory. Work is tailored to individual pace and ability to build confidence and skill at a pace which is right for the individual child. Following initial formative assessment, individual targets are set. I then teach the mathematical skills required to help pupils to achieve their targets, before we move on to new work. I assist pupils in making step by step notes for their topic folders, with key points highlighted, so that they can refer back to previous work and revise independently. I also teach pupils to make personalised revision cards with questions on the front and answers on the back, so that pupils can independently test themselves and ensure they have understood key concepts. Many pupils have said how helpful they have found this way of working and that they have found that they are then able to apply these learning methods to other subjects in school. As pupils progress through a maths topic, we also practise exam style reasoning questions so that pupils can see how different topics might be questioned in exams and so that pupils gain confidence in reasoning skills.
Before COVID I taught all of my maths lessons 'in person', but with the onset of Covid I moved all of my lessons online to ensure continuity in learning and support. From August 2022 I started re-offering 'in person' lessons to people in Bethesda, Gwynedd, as well as continuing online lessons for people who live out of the area or who prefer the online option. Whether pupils prefer 'in person' lessons or online tuition I’m here to give pupils the personalised attention they deserve so that they can reach their full academic potential.
